BELLYDANCE ...with Azura

Rediscover your body and feminine beauty through the practice of this sensual, health giving, life changing dance!  Beginners learn all basic Bellydance techniques including isolations, shimmies, Egyptian walk, head slides, snake arms, back bends, simple combinations and more! Intermediate students focus on technique and choreography using zill, stick, veil, Isis wings and sword whilst advanced students master classical, traditional, modern and stylized steps from Egypt, Lebanon and Turkey, performing regularly at many corporate, media and community events.

 

BOLLYWOOD ...with Cherry on Mondays and Harprit on Tuesdays

Learn the latest heart thumping Bollywood choreographies direct from India!  Classes are a special mix of Kathak, Bhangra (folk dance from Punjab), Classical Indian Dance, and choreographic ideas from every possible genre!  From bold, energetic, jumping movements performed in a circle or pair to intricate hand and eye expressions describing the gods and their games of love, Bollywood is exotic, rhythmic, fun and a great cardio workout!

 

LATIN ...with Ara

Ever wanted to Salsa?  Merengue?  Learn the cheeky Cha Cha?  Get your dancing shoes ready, come along, and swing your hips to all the popular Latin beats.  This physical discipline gives strength to all major muscle groups allowing you to walk proud, stand confident and swing with power & style.  Classes focus on learning basic steps and short routines, while touching on proper Latin dance technique.  No partner necessary.

 

FLAMENCO ...with Nella Randowne

Flamenco, the native dance of Andalusia is strongly linked to Gypsy cultures and Arabic Dance.  Distinguished by striking footwork accompanied by sinuous and undulating movements of the arms, hands and hips, the spirit of Flamenco is both earthy and powerful.  In this course you will learn palmas clapping, fundamental rhythms, foot and upper body technique, simple turns and choreography.

 

DRUMMING ...with Michael Rajab

Musicians in traditional Arabic bands are lead by the Daf (skinned tambourine) player.  Learn interesting facts relevant to a career as a percussionist in a Middle Eastern band or as a soloist accompanying a Bellydancer.  Starting with correct hand and finger technique, how to hold the drum and posture, basic rhythmic structure, transitional cues and soloing you will soon be playing Maqsoum, Baladi, Saiidi and Luff with confidence and style!  Drums can be ordered from Azura’s Oasis.

 

WHAT TO WEAR

Appropriate dancewear, leggings, leotard or stretchy top, bare feet or runners.  Bellydance students add a coin hipscarf.  Latin students: skirt or pants with a casual top and heeled dance shoes.  Flamenco students: hard heeled or character shoes, no rubber soles.

 

WHAT TO BRING

Bottled water or a sports drink, hand towel and a small snack if you are doing classes back to back. Students will need to purchase their own props for class practice and performances.

10 week courses: Adults $170, Children $130

Earlybird & bulk booking discount (2 courses or more per term):

Adults $150, Children $120

Trial session: Adults $20, Children $15, redeemable with full enrolment

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

North Coburg No.19 Tram from Elizabeth Street runs every 6 minutes, alight at Glenlyon Road.  Upfield Train from Flinders Street Station runs every 20 minutes.  Alight at Jewell Station.

 

PARKING 

Street parking is available on Sydney Road but beware, the western side becomes a clearway after 4pm. Paid parking is available in Edward Street at $1 per hour.

 

STUDIO HIRE

Features: 9x7metre floor space, 8 metre mirrored wall, 12 foot high heritage ceilings, floor to ceiling costume display, convenient location close to trains, trams & buses, off street and metre parking.

Cost: $45 per hour
